  • Applications are available for a Junior Faculty Fellowship.
    • The goal of this fellowship is to stimulate scientific research in the area of surgical infections and to foster the development of young surgical investigators who are pursuing a career in academic surgery.
    • This Fellowship is funded by the Surgical Infection Society Foundation.
    • The Stipend is $40,000 per year.

  • The Surgical Infection Society Foundation, in conjunction with our corporate sponsors, offers the Surgical Infection Society Foundation Fellowship Awards.
    • The purpose of these awards is to provide the opportunity for a resident or fellow (includes post-residency fellows) to spend one to two years in full-time research in the laboratory of a member of the Surgical Infection Society.
    • Residents or fellows who have completed at least two years of post-graduate training in a surgical discipline are eligible to apply.
    • The Stipend is $40,000 per year.
    • Duration - one year with option to apply for a second year.
    • Faculty Sponsor must be a member of the Surgical Infection Society.

  • SURGICAL INFECTION SOCIETY FOUNDATION/WYETH EVALUATIVE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AWARD


  • The Surgical Infection Society Foundation, in cooperation with Wyeth, is pleased to announce the availability of a SIS/Wyeth Evaluative Research Fellowship Award.
    • The purpose of this award is to encourage evaluative research in the area of surgical infections. This fellowship will provide a unique and exciting opportunity for surgical trainees to develop skills in this field.
    • Residents or fellows who have completed at least two years of post-graduate training in a surgical discipline are eligible to apply.
    • The Stipend is $40,000 per year.
    • Duration – one year with option to apply for a second year.
    • Faculty Sponsor must be a member of the Surgical Infection Society.
    • The candidate should submit a clinical research proposal that can be completed during their Fellowship. Research proposals should pertain to the broad area of evaluative research in surgical infection. Typical topics might include:
      • Clinical epidemiology (factors affecting the incidence of surgical infections, morbidity of surgical infections, epidemiology of surgical infections).
      • Health services research (surgical infection costs, need for hospitalization, measuring improvements in clinical care of surgical infections).
      • Decision analysis (need for antimicrobial intervention, results of surgical infection interventions).
    • Concomitant enrollment in a formal graduate-level training program in evaluative/epidemiology/outcome research is strongly encouraged.
